Wednesday July 8th 2020

Dear Member

Covid-19 Update

As we try to move on to make things better for all members, I would plead with you all to continue to follow the Government and SGU guidelines. THE PANDEMIC IS STILL WITH US, SOCIAL DISTANCE AT THIS STAGE IS STILL 2 METRES.

From Friday (10th July) anyone entering the Pro-shop will be required to wear a face covering. This is line with the latest rules set by Scottish Government regarding indoor spaces/shops.

Golfing

You already may be aware that we are approving 4 balls from Friday 10th July. It has come to my notice that over the last couple of weekends, groups have booked out several times but not used them all, thus leaving gaps. I would ask members to show consideration to members who could have had one of those times.

Supplementary rounds can be played by New Members ONLY who wish to obtain a handicap.

Both the Locker Rooms and Caddy Shed from Friday 17th July but still maintaining Social Distance. Mon-Thursday the Locker Room will be open and close with the Pro-shop.

Competitions

After consultation with the Council, Professional, Head Greenkeeper and SGU we have made the following provisional decisions. I cannot stress enough that these have not been taken lightly and could be changed or cancelled at short notice dependent upon Government or SGU rulings.

We intend to have 2 Medals and 2 Spoons in both August and September. You can enter the Medals on either the Saturday or Sunday. The spoons will be on a Wednesday.

25th/26th July – Fun Competition to get started, full details to follow.

8th/9th Aug– Weekend Comp

12th Aug – Mid-week Comp

22nd/23rd Aug – Weekend Comp (Subject to Golf Scotland Texas Scramble*)

26th – Mid-week Comp

5th/6th Sept – Weekend Comp

9th Sept – Mid-week Comp

19th/20th Sept– Weekend Comp

23rd Sept – Mid-week Comp

We have made the weekend medals on either Saturday or Sunday to allow as many members as possible to play. You can only register once as it’s the same medal on the 2 days. You don’t have to enter the competition but can still play a normal bounce game but in 3 balls.

It is with sadness that Ricky West has stepped down as Tournament Secretary for health reasons. On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to thank Ricky for all that he has done over the years.

Ladies

The Ladies section will have similar competitions on the alternative weekends. Dates are:
• Saturday 1st August
• Sunday 16th August
• Saturday 12th September
• Sunday 27th September

Clubhouse

After much deliberation, we are opening the bar facilities on Friday 17th July – Sunday 19th July inclusive. Opening hours will be Friday 11am – 11pm, Saturday 10am-11pm and Sunday 10am -9pm. If all goes well and there are no concerns from the bar staff we will continue to open at weekends until further notice.

Social members are limited to signing in maximum of 3 guests adhering to Government rulings.

There will be Social Distance instructions throughout the Clubhouse as well as sanitisation products. As there will be limited capacity due to the Social Distancing rules admittance be on a “1 in, 1 out” policy. Failure to comply with the regulations could have the severe consequences of closing the clubhouse once more.

We are continuing dialogue with our Chef, Daniel, and intend to meet up with him later this month to look at providing a snack menu when practical.

I am fully aware that it is impossible to please all of the members all of the time but let’s be realistic. We are all still susceptible to Covid-19 and we have to look after ourselves and everyone’s health.
Council members, Scott and Craig are constantly questioned why we are doing things this way when other clubs are doing it another way. I am only concerned with how Newbattle moves forward. Our New Member list has increased as well as others looking to join in the coming season so we must be doing something right! Making a decision is not going to appease every member, however the vast majority of you have always been and I hope continue to be supportive.

I would like to close by saying everything above depends on restriction changes being confirmed tomorrow and heaven forbid a 2nd wave doesn’t cause further lockdowns.

As with any change, members support is vital so I ask you to please help Newbattle Golf Club make the next few months as successful as we can.

Thank you and stay safe

Bert Craig
Captain
